# Harry Lucas — The Brooklyn Murders character guide

> Harry Lucas in The Brooklyn Murders by G. D. H. Cole.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Lucas, Henry Lucas

**First appearance:** 0000-i-a-family-celebration

## Snapshot

Ellery's old-fashioned guardian, who tempers romantic advice with propriety while steering his ward through the wreckage of the Brooklyn murders.

## Who they are

Harry Lucas is the steady older presence in Ellery's life, the man whose counsel Ellery half-follows and half-resists as he navigates love and amateur detection at once. He urges patience and restraint in courtship, revealing a propriety that sits oddly with his reputation for shady connections to the Brooklyn family. His advice shapes how Ellery approaches Joan in the story's early middle, making Lucas a quiet hinge between the emotional and criminal threads.
