## Snapshot

A figure of weight and authority whose connection to the widening inquiry shadows French's investigation as the case stretches from Portsmouth to Arundel and Caterham.

## Who they are

Sir Mortimer moves in the upper reaches of the world French must navigate — the kind of name that opens doors and commands attention, yet also raises the uncomfortable possibility that the conspiracy reaches higher than a trio of box office schemers. His presence in the background of the investigation keeps French alert to the fact that respectability and guilt are not mutually exclusive. As the trail grows colder and the Chief Inspector's warnings grow graver, Sir Mortimer's position becomes one more thread French cannot afford to ignore.
