## Who they are

Night rules a palace of closed doors, and she receives the children with the cold authority of someone who has kept humanity's darkness in order for a very long time. Her tension is with Light, whose brightness she considers reckless, and with Tyltyl, who keeps demanding what she refuses to give. She matters because she is the first power to treat the quest as genuinely dangerous, forcing the children to weigh what they are willing to open.
