## Who they are

Bread belongs to the household objects that Light wakes into service, and his timidity makes him the most human of the company. Where Fire blusters and Sugar fawns, Bread frets, which is precisely why the children trust him. He matters because his plainness keeps the quest grounded: the Blue Bird is sought by ordinary things, not only by heroes.
