Chapter 1
The Blithedale Romance

Chapter 2
Old Moodie
On the eve of his departure for Blithedale, Miles Coverdale encounters an elderly, shabby man named Old Moodie who asks to speak with him. Moodie hesitantly inquires about Coverdale's trip and mentions Zenobia, but ultimately defers his request. Coverdale reflects on the Veiled Lady exhibition and his own doubts about joining the Blithedale experiment.
Chapter 3
Blithedale
Coverdale recalls his journey from his comfortable bachelor quarters in the city to the Blithedale farm during a harsh April snowstorm, his arrival at the farmhouse with fellow idealists, and the warm welcome from Mrs. Foster and the two young women, culminating in the entrance of Zenobia, a striking woman who has adopted a pseudonym befitting her imperial bearing.
Chapter 4
A Knot of Dreamers
Coverdale and the other new arrivals are welcomed to Blithedale by Zenobia, who speaks warmly to each. Coverdale is struck by Zenobia's beauty, vitality, and the exotic flower in her hair. The group discusses the division of labor, with Zenobia humorously assigning domestic work to the women. Talk turns to the absent Hollingsworth, whom Zenobia admires for his passionate philanthropy. Silas Foster arrives, bringing a dose of grim reality to the idealistic gathering.
Chapter 5
IV: The Supper-Table
During a stormy night at Blithedale, the community's supper is interrupted by a knock at the door. Hollingsworth arrives with a mysterious, shivering young woman named Priscilla, who seems drawn only to Zenobia. Despite initial tension and Zenobia's sharp reaction, the group agrees to shelter her, with Hollingsworth and Silas Foster urging kindness and practical care.
