# Inspector McIver — The Black Gang character guide

> Inspector McIver in The Black Gang by H. C. McNeile.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Chief Inspector McIver, McIver, dear old McIver, Inspector, ass McIver

**First appearance:** 0001-ii-in-which-scotland-yard-sits-up-and-takes-notice

## Snapshot

A Scotland Yard inspector who works alongside Drummond while suspecting exactly who the Black Gang's leader really is.

## Who they are

McIver is the professional on the other side of Drummond's amateur theatrics, close enough to be called dear old McIver and blunt enough to be called an ass. He represents the law that Drummond both uses and evades, and his presence keeps the Gang's vigilante methods morally unsettled. In the early arc he is the channel through which official suspicion and official help both arrive.
