# Mrs. Coolidge — The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge character guide

> Mrs. Coolidge in The Autobiography of Calvin Coolidge by Calvin Coolidge.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Christmas Mrs. Coolidge

**First appearance:** 0002-i-scenes-of-my-childhood

## Snapshot

Coolidge's wife, whose steady presence and quiet dignity accompany him from Massachusetts politics into the White House's strangest hours.

## Who they are

She appears in the autobiography less as a political partner than as a companion in the intimate rituals of public life — attending the First Congregational Church, receiving Mrs. Harding's sympathy during the funeral period. Her presence softens Coolidge's famously reticent narration, and her composure under scrutiny mirrors his own. She matters because she anchors the private man behind the public office.
