## Who they are

Zeus never strides onto the deck, yet his presence shapes every landfall: Phrixus built him an altar for exiles, and Jason swears by him when he takes Medea's hand. Hera and Athena deliberately turn aside from him to plot the Fleece's return, which tells you how much his authority hangs over the story. He is the quiet standard against which the heroes' oaths and the gods' schemes are measured.
