Mopsus, son of Ampycus, stands among the assembled heroes as one of the voyage's two diviners, a man whose craft lies in translating the speech of birds and the smoke of sacrifice. Where Idmon carries foreknowledge of his own end, Mopsus carries the daily burden of guidance — the small, unglamorous decisions of when to sail and where to land. His counsel keeps the Argo moving through a world where the gods' intentions are legible only to those patient enough to read them.
