## Who they are

Camilla leads a cavalry of Volscian horsemen and women into battle for Turnus, her devotion to the war matched by a ferocity no one on either side can match. Raised by a father who fled into the mountains and dedicated her to Diana, she carries the huntress's independence into a conflict that will test it. Her arrival in the middle books shifts the war's momentum and gives the poem one of its most vivid images of a woman who chose the spear over the loom.
