# The Fairy — The Adventures of Pinocchio character guide > The Fairy in The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. **Role:** major **Also known as:** Fairy, little Fairy, the good Fairy, Poor Fairy **First appearance:** 0015-xvi-the-beautiful-child-rescues-the-puppet ## Snapshot A blue-haired child of the forest who rescues Pinocchio, scolds him like a mother, and refuses to let him stay lost. ## Who they are The Fairy appears first as a strange dead girl in a house in the woods and later as a young woman who calls herself Pinocchio's sister, shifting shape but never her purpose. She is patient and stern in equal measure, warning him that boys who break promises turn into worse things, and she keeps forgiving him even when he lies to her face. Her interventions give the middle of the book its moral spine, holding out the possibility of change that Pinocchio keeps almost, but not quite, grasping. ## In the story ### [XV: The Assassins Hang Pinocchio to the Big Oak](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_adventures_of_pinocchio_se/chapters/xv-the-assassins-hang-pinocchio-to-the-big-oak) Appears as a beautiful blue-haired Child at the window of the white house, claiming to be dead and refusing to open the door, then disappears. ### [XVI: The Beautiful Child Rescues the Puppet](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_adventures_of_pinocchio_se/chapters/xvi-the-beautiful-child-rescues-the-puppet) The beautiful Child with blue hair who rescues Pinocchio; summons a Falcon, a Poodle, and three doctors to aid the puppet. ### [XVII: Pinocchio Will Not Take His Medicine](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_adventures_of_pinocchio_se/chapters/xvii-pinocchio-will-not-take-his-medicine) Patiently tries to administer medicine, exposes Pinocchio's lies, and laughs at his growing nose. ### [XVIII: Pinocchio Again Meets the Fox and the Cat](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/the_adventures_of_pinocchio_se/chapters/xviii-pinocchio-again-meets-the-fox-and-the-cat) The Fairy allows Pinocchio to cry over his nose as a lesson against lying, then summons woodpeckers to restore it.
