## Snapshot

A Belgian officer whose polished manners and avarice conceal a jackal's willingness to follow Tarzan into Opar's treasure vaults.

## Who they are

M. Jules Frecoult moves through the novel's intrigue with the ease of a man who knows how to be trusted and how to betray. He trails Tarzan toward Opar's forgotten gold, sweating with terror on the cliffs yet spurred upward by avarice, content to let the ape-man do the dangerous work while he marks the treasure's location for his own followers. His careful duplicity makes him the quiet counterweight to Tarzan's blunt courage, a reminder that the jungle's deadliest predators sometimes wear European coats.
