# The Waziri — Tarzan and the Golden Lion character guide

> The Waziri in Tarzan and the Golden Lion by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Waziri

**First appearance:** 0000-i-the-golden-lion

## Snapshot

Tarzan's loyal warriors, who stand stolid behind the boma wall while two hundred enemies work themselves into a frenzy.

## Who they are

Schooled by Tarzan, the Waziri have discarded the taunting dance of other tribes and simply wait, spears bristling, for the charge. When Usula later meets his master on the trail, he bares his breast and offers his life for having failed to guard Lady Greystoke. Their shame and their simple reply — 'We are Waziri' — carry the story's grief and its promise of revenge.
