# Jane Clayton — Tarzan and the Golden Lion character guide

> Jane Clayton in Tarzan and the Golden Lion by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Jane, Lady Greystoke

**First appearance:** 0000-i-the-golden-lion

## Snapshot

Tarzan's wife, who takes in five desperate strangers, weighs two hundred rifles against her Waziri, and orders them to hold fire till the first attack.

## Who they are

Lady Greystoke commands the boma in Tarzan's absence, and her calm under Flora's sudden appearance and Luvini's shrieking horde is the discipline Tarzan drilled into his Waziri. She recognizes Flora instantly and knows the woman's story does not quite fit, yet shelters her anyway. Her decision to fight rather than surrender the whites sets the early arc in motion and shows why the jungle estate holds together without its lord.
