# Flora Hawkes — Tarzan and the Golden Lion character guide

> Flora Hawkes in Tarzan and the Golden Lion by Edgar Rice Burroughs.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Flora, Miss Flora

**First appearance:** 0000-i-the-golden-lion

## Snapshot

A glib English adventuress who talks her way into Jane's boma with a safari mutiny on her heels and a lie on her tongue.

## Who they are

Flora Hawkes arrives at Lady Greystoke's camp pleading for protection from two hundred mutinous west coast boys, trading on her past service with the Greystokes to win shelter. Her quick wit covers a deeper consternation — Jane's surprise at seeing her in Africa nearly undoes whatever story she and her companions have rehearsed. She matters because her arrival drags the treasure expedition's troubles straight into Tarzan's household, forcing the Waziri into a fight not of their choosing.
