# How does Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town develop the theme of Romance and Idealized Love?

> Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town by Stephen Leacock

## Answer

Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town by Stephen Leacock develops Romance and Idealized Love across the chapters the companion marks for this theme.

The courtship of Peter Pupkin and Zena Pepperleigh is portrayed through a lens of romantic fantasy, with characters imagining themselves in melodramatic scenarios, yet the story grounds this in the mundane reality of small-town life.

Pupkin's nervous courtship of Zena is portrayed as a romantic ordeal requiring bravery and careful grooming, reflecting idealized love in a small-town setting.

Pupkin's love for Zena is portrayed as foreordained and idealistic, with references to knights, crusaders, and Sir Galahad.

Pupkin's romantic despair over Zena's attention to another man drives his suicidal thoughts, yet his love is comically resolved through ice cream and a heroic act.
