# Sigurd Cape — Styrbiorn the Strong character guide

> Sigurd Cape in Styrbiorn the Strong by E. R. Eddison.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Sigurd

**First appearance:** 0006-iv-jomsburg

## Snapshot

A Jomsburg Viking and Styrbiorn's sworn companion, steady in the shield-wall and in the counsels that shape the doomed northern campaign.

## Who they are

Sigurd Cape sails with Bui's contingent in the great battle-line at Fyrisfield, one of the Jomsburgers whose loyalty to Styrbiorn is tested by the sheer scale of the host arrayed against them. He belongs to the world of oath-bound warrior brotherhoods where a man's worth is measured by his place in the marshalled ranks and his willingness to stand when others slip away. His presence in the right wing alongside Bui anchors the reader in the texture of Viking comradeship that Eddison renders with such cold precision.
