A warrant officer at the Academy who runs the cadets through their paces, McKenny's whistle cuts through a rigged game and a brewing fight alike.

## Who they are

McKenny is the practical, unsentimental hand of Space Academy training — the one who blows the whistle when Tom and Roger are snarling at each other on the mercury field, and the one Captain Strong sends the boys to see at the spaceport. He doesn't speechify; he tests. His assignments and oversight are how the Polaris unit keeps getting measured against the standard it claims to want.
