# High Chin Bob — Songs of the Cattle Trail and Cow Camp character guide

> High Chin Bob in Songs of the Cattle Trail and Cow Camp by John A. Lomax.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Bob, Chin Bob, High Chin, old Bob

**First appearance:** 0015-high-chin-bob

## Snapshot

A boastful cowboy whose tall tales and high chin mark him as the range's resident blowhard, always ready with a story or a drink.

## Who they are

Bob is the kind of cowboy other riders measure themselves against and roll their eyes at, a figure of comic swagger and genuine grit. His flaw is his mouth, which runs ahead of his deeds, but his desire to be legendary keeps him in the middle of every campfire tale. He matters because his boasting gives the collection its humor and its skeptical view of cowboy heroics, a counterweight to the quieter laments around him.
