# Jeff Nicks — Smoky the Cowhorse character guide

> Jeff Nicks in Smoky the Cowhorse by Will James.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Jeff

**First appearance:** 0003-ii-smoky-meets-the-human

## Snapshot

The Rocking R's cow foreman, a range veteran whose eyes miss nothing and whose judgment on a horse is as steady as his running walk.

## Who they are

Jeff rides the outfit's territory with the habit of a man who has spent his life reading ground, and it is that habit that puts him in the right place when Clint is in trouble. He is not a bronc fighter anymore and says so plainly, but he is the kind of cowman whose caution is a form of competence, not cowardice. His role in the early-middle arc is to be the outfit's steady hand, the one who can size up a situation and a horse and act on what he sees.
