# Cloudy — Smoky the Cowhorse character guide

> Cloudy in Smoky the Cowhorse by Will James.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Old Cloudy

**First appearance:** 0002-i-a-range-colt

## Snapshot

An old, wise cowhorse who knows the range and the ropes, he is the steady presence Smoky learns from in his early days.

## Who they are

Cloudy is the seasoned horse in the remuda, the one who has already been through the breaking and the branding and the long drives, and he carries that knowledge the way older horses do, without fuss. For a colt as watchful as Smoky, Cloudy is a kind of living instruction manual, a model of what a working horse looks like when the work is done well. His presence in the early chapters gives Smoky something to measure himself against before the harder lessons begin.
