# Old Louise — Sir Percy Hits Back character guide

> Old Louise in Sir Percy Hits Back by Baroness Orczy.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Louise, M'ame Louise, poor old Louise

**First appearance:** 0000-i

## Snapshot

A stolid, old-fashioned peasant woman who has guarded Fleurette for eighteen years and follows her meekly into the very jaws of the Revolution.

## Who they are

Louise has old-fashioned notions about soldiers, respect, and the proper order of things, and she sails past slouching guards with her nose in the air. She has long known there was a mystery around Fleurette's father, but only now, hearing the name Chauvelin spoken aloud, do vague doubts harden into suspicion. Her silent, stolid presence is the conscience of the early chapters, and the witness whose peasant judgment will weigh everything the Revolution has made of the man she once served.
