## Snapshot

A young English aristocrat in filthy rags, he spars and jokes with his fellow rescuers while the guillotine waits outside the door.

## Who they are

Lord Anthony Dewhurst is one of Sir Percy Blakeney's league, a boyish adventurer who submits to being plastered with grime for the sake of disguise and laughs about it. His terror of garlic and his mock horror at his own dirt sit alongside a quiet readiness to die, and he asks his chief 'Anything to be done?' with the simplicity of a man who has already accepted the answer. His high spirits and hero worship give the league its warmth and make the danger feel real.
