## Who they are

Thaddeus of Warsaw belongs to the melancholy company of Polish émigrés whose lost homeland and ruined fortunes shadow their lives in France. His tragic history and his guarded manner set him apart in the salons, where his silence invites speculation and sympathy alike. He matters because his presence embodies the cost of exile and the secret griefs that Parisian society prefers to overlook.
