> Humphrey Carl Laszlo in Short Science Fiction by Isaac Asimov.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Laszlo

**First appearance:** 0000-the-magnificent-possession

## Snapshot

A Harvard-accented roboticist with a pugnacious snub face, Laszlo is Lynn's trusted expert — and the man who must confront how little anyone truly knows about the other side.

## Who they are

Laszlo is the grandson of a Hungarian defector, thickset and balding, soft-spoken in a way that makes his scowl more alarming. He serves as Lynn's comforting receptacle for complete knowledge of robotics, certain he knows approximately where 'They' are. When Breckenridge presses him on twenty-five years of missing conferences and unvisited laboratories, his professional confidence begins to crack — and with it, the assumption that robots could never pass for human.
