# Relegar — Short Science Fiction character guide

> Relegar in Short Science Fiction by Noel Loomis.

**Role:** supporting

**First appearance:** 0005-the-wealth-of-echindul

## Snapshot

A Uranian information broker in Venus's lawless Pass whose spy monopoly makes him the first man every prospector fears and every deal must reckon with.

## Who they are

Relegar controls The Pass's intelligence network because only a Uranian can hear the fish-people's high-range speech, and no Uranian trusts another, leaving him the sole interpreter of their dialect. Anything of value found in Venus's lower half reaches him quickly, so Grant Russell cannot carry his stones through the settlement without losing them, or worse. Relegar's reach forces Grant into deception and a dangerous bargain with the Jovian fence Netse, shaping the story's central squeeze.
