# Old Arturius — Short Science Fiction character guide

> Old Arturius in Short Science Fiction by Noel Loomis.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Arturius

**First appearance:** 0006-you-too-can-be-a-millionaire

## Snapshot

A veteran linotype operator whose scowling competence and uncanny timing make him both indispensable and quietly suspect on the shop floor.

## Who they are

Arturius works the linecasting machines alongside High-Pockets Jones, and when a line sticks at transfer he arrives with a scowl diluted by self-satisfaction. He knows the equipment, and he knows more than he lets on about who is really behind the strange disruptions. His ambiguous loyalty keeps the narrator guessing whether Arturius is a saboteur, a guardian, or something stranger, and his presence gives the labor-versus-management conflict a human, watchable face.
