When Count Ferruccio reveals that the Baron will break Squarcio on the wheel for killing him, the swordsman coolly sheathes his blade and resolves to shadow his intended victim until he leaves the territory. His unshakeable calm and grimly practical logic — that common men endure what noblemen cannot — make him both a comic foil and a genuine threat in the play's opening intrigue.
