## Snapshot

A duke's son and undersecretary who can play ragtime by ear but cannot manage a single useful thought, Reginald collapses into opium-fed hysterics over a stock deal gone wrong.

## Who they are

Reginald is a pampered young man of twenty-two whose parliamentary seat exists only because his father is a Duke, and whose chief talent is vamping popular tunes at the piano. Terrified that his shady share-buying will be exposed, he barricades himself in a hotel drawing room and begs the doctor for pills, then starts seeing crocodiles. His comic hysteria sets the farce in motion and gives Shaw a target for skewering inherited privilege and fashionable quackery alike.
