# Mr. Greypoole — Short Fiction character guide

> Mr. Greypoole in Short Fiction by Charles Beaumont.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Greypoole

**First appearance:** 0000-the-beautiful-people

## Snapshot

Mr. Greypoole welcomes the stranded crew into a lace-curtained house with lavender wallpaper, offers wine, and mentions that something has gone wrong with his calendar.

## Who they are

He is the small, courteous host who leads Webber and his men down a path past scorched trees to a wooden porch, treating their arrival as an occasion and fussing over whether they like good wine. His manner is warm and slightly off—he apologizes for a broken 'doodad' and asks for news of home as though home were a place one might visit. His hospitality is the doorway into the frozen town, and his casual mention of the calendar is the first hint that time here does not behave.
