# Tommy Brock — Short Fiction character guide

> Tommy Brock in Short Fiction by Beatrix Potter.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Tommy, Tom

**First appearance:** 0017-the-tale-of-mr-tod

## Snapshot

A badger with a taste for uninvited naps and a long-running feud with Mr. Tod, the fox whose house he keeps occupying.

## Who they are

Tommy Brock is the badger whose squatting habits and shameless appetite make him Mr. Tod's perpetual adversary, and whose fondness for rabbit pie draws him into the affairs of Benjamin Bunny's family. He is slow, sly, and utterly unbothered by other people's property or plans, treating every burrow as his own and every rabbit as potential dinner. His rivalry with Mr. Tod gives the story its engine of mischief, and his schemes force the rabbits to rely on their wits rather than their speed.
