A squirrel who stores nuts in a woodpecker's tree, gets trapped inside by his own fat, and stays a fortnight while his wife waits outside.

## Who they are

Timmy Tiptoes is a married squirrel whose careful hoarding leads him into a hollow tree where he becomes too plump to squeeze back out. His wife, Goody Tiptoes, calls down through the hole and he kisses her through it, but he cannot come home, and Chippy Hackee below him will not leave either. The standoff lasts until a wind tears the treetop open and rain drives him out with an umbrella. His predicament is both comic and tender, a portrait of a husband whose own caution traps him.
