## Snapshot

An old rat with a taste for kitten dumplings, who trusses Tom Kitten in dough and debates the proper recipe.

## Who they are

Samuel Whiskers is the patriarch of the rats infesting Tabitha Twitchit's old house, a snuff-taking schemer who finds Tom Kitten in his bed and decides to make him into a roly-poly pudding. His domestic partnership with Anna Maria is a dark comedy of bickering over breadcrumbs versus butter and dough, even as their victim wriggles and mews beneath the rolling-pin. He embodies the story's menace and its humor, a villain whose fussy culinary standards are as threatening as his teeth.
