Chapter 1
The Tale of Peter Rabbit
Peter Rabbit disobeys his mother's warning and enters Mr. McGregor's garden, where he is chased, loses his shoes and jacket, and narrowly escapes after a series of close calls. He returns home exhausted and ill, while his obedient siblings enjoy a pleasant supper.
Chapter 2
The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin
Nutkin and his squirrel cousins travel to Owl Island to gather nuts, offering gifts to Old Brown. Nutkin's impertinent riddles and disrespect anger the owl, leading to a chase where Nutkin loses his tail but escapes.
Chapter 3
The Tailor of Gloucester
A poor tailor in Gloucester, tasked with making a cherry-colored coat and embroidered waistcoat for the Mayor's Christmas wedding, falls ill after sending his cat Simpkin to buy supplies. While he lies sick, a community of mice secretly completes the sewing, using the twist he lacked, as Simpkin prowls outside.
Chapter 4
The Tale of Benjamin Bunny
Benjamin Bunny visits his cousin Peter Rabbit, who has lost his clothes in Mr. McGregor's garden. They retrieve the clothes from the scarecrow and gather onions as a gift, but are trapped under a basket by a cat. Old Mr. Bunny rescues them, drives the cat into the greenhouse, and disciplines Benjamin. Peter returns home forgiven, and the onions are hung up by Mrs. Rabbit.
Chapter 5
The Tale of Two Bad Mice
Two mice, Tom Thumb and Hunca Munca, discover a beautiful doll's house and, after finding the food is inedible plaster, wreak havoc in frustration. They steal what they can, but later make amends by leaving a crooked sixpence in a stocking on Christmas Eve, and Hunca Munca returns each morning to clean.
