# Hengly — Short Fiction character guide

> Hengly in Short Fiction by Harry Harrison.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Dear Hengly

**First appearance:** 0000-an-artist-s-life

## Snapshot

The name Brent Dalgreen keeps reaching for when he wants an introduction, a favor, or a door opened in a city that runs on who you know.

## Who they are

Hengly never steps onstage, yet his name does the work of a handshake: it flusters receptionists, unlocks appointments, and gives Brent a plausible reason to be wherever he shouldn't. That borrowed authority is the point. Brent moves through galleries and private residences under a social cover he doesn't quite own, and the gap between the name he drops and the errand he's actually running is where the story's early tension quietly gathers.
