First appearance: conditionally human
As a supporting figure in Short Fiction, the girl is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
She is the owner whose grief over a failing K-48 series neutroid has become a fantasy Doctor Georges cannot bring himself to shatter. Unable to pay for treatment no hospital would give a machine, she becomes the reason Georges asks Norris for an unclaimed animal and a faked serial number. Her unseen presence haunts the story's central moral pressure, the question of what we owe the things we love.
