**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** the late Tokubey

**First appearance:** 0001-short-fiction

## Snapshot

The late Tokubey, a servant whose death leaves behind a daughter, Tsuya, and a household still shadowed by his memory.

## Who they are

Tokubey belongs to the past of the household where Shinsuké serves, a dead master whose absence shapes the lives of those who remain. His daughter Tsuya, now the young mistress, carries his legacy of status and expectation, while the servant Shinsuké burns with love for her that his low birth makes impossible. The shadow of Tokubey's name and station hangs over the early tension between Tsuya and Shinsuké, defining the gulf of class that their passion cannot easily bridge.
