**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Rosa, Rosa-san

**First appearance:** 0001-short-fiction

## Snapshot

A foreign woman whose presence in the tattooer's world suggests the collision of Edo craft with Western eyes, a figure of curiosity and distance.

## Who they are

Miss Rosa belongs to the world outside Seikichi's studio, a foreign woman whose appearance in the narrative signals the encroachment of the West on old Edo's tattooed bodies and ukiyo-e sensibilities. She is not part of the tattooer's intimate torture of clients but stands apart, a reminder that the city's pleasures and cruelties are being watched by strangers. Her role in the early-middle arc is to widen the story's frame, making Seikichi's secret pleasures and artistic obsessions feel both local and exposed.
