First appearance: The Spirit of Fasting and Petter Nord
As a major figure in Short Fiction, Petter Nord is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
A young man whose actions drive events related to money and shame.
Petter Nord has traded his mice and mischief for silent springs and wheels, dating his goodness from the night Joy failed him and Fasting became his friend. His tension is between the virtuous self he has built and the three disreputable Petters who tempt him back toward the village and Halfvorson's fifty crowns. He matters because his cautious refusal of revenge — and the question of whether that refusal is wisdom or cowardice — turns the tale into a quiet reckoning with what a poor life can afford.
