A young woman whose suitor Tönne builds her a cabin in silence, unable to speak the words that would make it a proposal.

## Who they are

Jofrid walks the path past the cairns where Tönne labors over squared beams meant for a house he cannot bring himself to offer her. She understands his meaning perfectly well, but she wants a strong and healthy husband, not a man slow of speech and weak of body. Her hesitation, and his mute devotion, hold the two of them suspended between what he has built and what she cannot yet accept.
