## Snapshot

The beautiful orphan drudge of Madame Bauche's household, whose ripening charms have quietly captured the heir's heart without his mother noticing.

## Who they are

Marie lives under Madame Bauche's green-spectacled charity, valued as a useful drudge and never once considered as a woman. The valley has already seen what Madame Bauche has not: that Adolphe Bauche, heir to everything, is contemplating marriage to poor Marie. Her beauty and daily usefulness collide with the old lady's blindness to her, making her the quiet center of a household about to be thrown into upheaval.
