## Snapshot

A steady, comely daughter of a remote Bermudian cottage, quietly engaged to the Presbyterian minister—until a convict's escape forces her to discover what she is willing to risk.

## Who they are

Anastasia Bergen keeps her father's household on Crump Island, managing the servants and the small daily economies of a life conducted mostly by water. She came late to beauty and to love: the young men of St. George once passed her by, but Caleb Morton, the minister, has been engaged to her for two years—an attachment her father resents. Her quiet competence and deepening loyalty place her at the center of the story's mounting crisis.
