# Theodoric Voler — Short Fiction character guide

> Theodoric Voler in Short Fiction by Saki.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** The Mouse Theodoric Voler

**First appearance:** 0032-the-mouse

## Snapshot

A sheltered young man whose carefully managed composure collapses when a mouse, a train compartment, and a sleeping passenger conspire against him.

## Who they are

Theodoric Voler has been raised so gently that the ordinary world arrives as a series of ambushes, and a railway journey becomes an ordeal of etiquette and panic. His horror of embarrassment outweighs his horror of anything genuinely dangerous, which is precisely what makes him so vulnerable to the small indignities Saki arranges. His plight matters because it exposes how thin the line is between good manners and sheer paralysis.
