# Leonard Bilsiter — Short Fiction character guide

> Leonard Bilsiter in Short Fiction by Saki.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** The She-Wolf Leonard Bilsiter, Leonard

**First appearance:** 0086-the-she-wolf

## Snapshot

A social climber who has discovered that a reputation for occult powers is cheaper than actual accomplishments and far more entertaining at dinner.

## Who they are

Leonard Bilsiter moves through drawing rooms trading on a mystique he has largely invented, claiming an Eastern education and a command of strange forces that no one can quite disprove. His vanity is matched only by his willingness to improvise, and the two together make him a magnet for the kind of guest who enjoys being scandalized. He matters because his pretensions set in motion the evening's mischief, and because Saki uses him to skewer the credulity of fashionable society.
