A girl with violet-blue flame for hair and silver-coin eyes whose single glance at Sim binds him to her across a life measured in days.

## Who they are

Lyte flashes past Sim in a crowd and calls her name back over her shoulder, and in that instant he decides she is his friend, his love, his wife, the one who will lie beside him on the funeral pyre. Chion mocks the name; Dark warns Sim he'll need weapons to fight for her. She is the bright, brief object of desire that pulls Sim out of babyhood and toward the dangerous knowledge of the Scientists.
