Bascomb is a regular at breakfast until a fragment of Teresa's dream—dirty green rain, rats in stomachs, lampposts with hair—stops him cold and sends him chasing her into the street. He's shaken, insistent, and a little pathetic in his desperation to understand a dream he can't quite recall but knows he shared. His discovery that the dream is multiplex, dreamed by many in one city, makes him the unwitting detective of the Green-Rain Syndrome's early arc.
