# Kery of Broina — Short Fiction character guide

> Kery of Broina in Short Fiction by Poul Anderson.

**Role:** supporting

**Also known as:** Kery, Broina

**First appearance:** 0000-star-ship

## Snapshot

A blue-eyed northern wanderer, awkward in courts and deadly in the dark, who carries his famine-struck homeland in his accent and his silence.

## Who they are

Kery arrives at Queen Sathi's twilight court as one of the men of Killorn, a refugee of drought and gray blight, his uncouth manners clashing with the harp music and slim pillars around him. He is drawn to the young queen even as he stands stiff and speechless before her, his strange cold-flame eyes betraying more than his tongue will. His loyalty to his companions and his unease among southern refinements make him the story's bridge between a dying north and a court that may not survive its own priests.
