# Colin Fraser — Short Fiction character guide > Colin Fraser in Short Fiction by Poul Anderson. **Role:** major **Also known as:** Fraser, Mr. Fraser **First appearance:** 0000-star-ship ## Snapshot A gaunt, pipe-smoking suitor competing for Judy's hand, whose stubborn patience and sharp instincts pull him into a research scheme far stranger than courtship. ## Who they are Fraser is the rumpled, hatchet-faced man Judy keeps circling back to even as she chases a stage career and richer company. He wants to marry her, but she wants to see the world first, and his dry jealousy of the industrialist Snyder curdles into curiosity when she describes being paid to have her brain waves measured. His skepticism about the well-funded 'mad scientist' Kennedy makes him the natural reader's proxy as the story's early mystery takes shape. ## Relationships ### [Judy Sanders](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/characters/judy_sanders) _romantic_ Colin and Judy share a close, possibly romantic bond, indicated by their high interaction frequency and typical narrative pairing. ### [Jamie](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/characters/jamie) _family_ Colin and Jamie are likely siblings or close relatives, given the intimate naming and interaction frequency. ### [Judy Sanders](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/characters/judy_sanders) _romantic_ Colin and Judy share a close, possibly romantic bond, indicated by their high interaction frequency and typical narrative pairing. ### [Judy Sanders](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/characters/judy_sanders) _romantic_ Colin and Judy share a close, possibly romantic bond, indicated by their high interaction frequency and typical narrative pairing. ### [Jamie](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/characters/jamie) _family_ Colin and Jamie are likely siblings or close relatives, given the intimate naming and interaction frequency. ### [Jamie](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/characters/jamie) _family_ Colin and Jamie are likely siblings or close relatives, given the intimate naming and interaction frequency. ## In the story ### [Star Ship](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/chapters/star-ship) Key crew member navigating the star ship's journey. ### [Witch of the Demon Seas](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/chapters/witch-of-the-demon-seas) A key figure in the narrative, likely involved in the central conflict. ### [Inside Earth](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/chapters/inside-earth) Key figure in Earth's political landscape, navigating alliances and betrayals. ### [I](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/chapters/i) Not present in this chapter. ### [II](https://www.betterreads.dev/discover/short_fiction_44_se/chapters/ii) Mentioned as a possible identity or associate;
