# Tony Rossi — Short Fiction character guide

> Tony Rossi in Short Fiction by Philip K. Dick.

**Role:** major

**Also known as:** Tony

**First appearance:** 0009-tony-and-the-beetles

## Snapshot

A young Terran riding an EEP through occupied Karnet, curious enough about the Pas-udeti to ask the questions nobody wants answered.

## Who they are

Tony shares a truck with an elderly Pas-udeti through the red dust outside Karnet, and rather than sit silent he asks about the war, the fleet, and the relatives the old creature lost when the system fell. His father's caution about overextended supply lines gives him a soldier's vocabulary, but his real trait is an unguarded friendliness that the Pas keeps meeting with unease. That exchange — and the abrupt way it ends at the city gate — sets the tone for everything Tony is about to learn about being a guest among the conquered.
