First appearance: the defenders
As a supporting figure in Short Fiction, Peter Sherikov is not background color—the story leans on what they do once the chapter opens.
Director of military labs, tasked with completing the F.T.L.
Sherikov runs the vast research network under the Ural Mountains, where Terra's last hope against Centaurus is being assembled piece by piece. He bristles at Reinhart's political supervision, meeting the Council man's demands with open sarcasm and stubborn independence, yet he is too valuable to be coerced. His prized project, the squat cone called Icarus, is the reason Reinhart has come — and the reason their mutual dislike must be swallowed.
